C.Z.Guilmoto was supporting this project from the beginning and give access to his SIFP Database. The French Institute of Pondicherry (IFP) welcomed the program and allowed the realization of this atlas.

This atlas is dedicated to South Indian people, who welcomes us so warmly.

 
Details about the authors
 

Olivia Aubriot:
Agronomist and anthropologist, Olivia Aubriot is specialised on Social Management of Irrigation. She has been working mainly in Nepal and Tamil Nadu. Since October 2000, she integrated CNRS (national center for scientific research) in a team called "Milieux, Sociétés et Culture en Himalaya".

Claude Garcia :
With a background in Ecology and Tropical Forestry, Claude GARCIA works on Man and Forest interactions, with a focus on biodiversity management and conservation. His PhD deals with the ecological and social aspects of sacred forests in the Kodagu District (Western Ghats). He is currently working within the Forestry Department of CIRAD.

Christophe Z. Guilmoto:
Christophe Z Guilmoto is a demographer at the IRD (LPED research unit). He worked till 2002 at the French Institute of Pondicherry where he launched the South india Fertility Project that provided the raw data for this atlas. His research focusses on Indian demography, international migration and spatial modelling.

Frédéric Landy:
Frederic Landy is assistant professor in geography at the university of
Paris X-Nanterre, fellow, Institut Universitaire de France and associate
fellow, Centre for Indian and South Asian Studies (CEIAS). He has authored "L'Union indienne" (Ed. du Temps, Nantes, 2002) and (with B.Dorin)"Agriculture et alimentation de l'Inde" (INRA Editions, Paris, 2002).

Sébastien Oliveau:
Sébastien Oliveau is geographer at University Paris I, in the research center "Géographie-cités". He is currently research scholar at the IFP. His Ph.D. focuses on the impact of tamil urban places on their rural hinterland. He is specialized in GIS, Spatial Analysis and application of new technologies in the research field.

M. Thanuja:
Thanuja. M is an anthropologist at the Department of Anthropology, University of Madras. She is currently Research Scholar at IFP. Her Ph.D. focusses on Social structure, Shifting cultivation and Development of the Konda Reddis, a hill tribe of north Andhra Pradesh. She has also worked on Women in Prostitution in Chennai, on the Right to Information Movement in Tamil Nadu and on the Sacred Groves of Coorg, Karnataka.

Stéphanie Vella:
Stephanie Vella is geographer at University Bordeaux III (France), in the research center DYMSET. Her Ph.D. focuses on the spatialisation of sexual discrimination in Tamil Nadu, with a specific study of infanticide of girls and sex selection of female foetuses. She's integrated in an international network about reproductive rights.

Sattianarayanin Vingadassamy:
Sattia was technical assistant at the French Institute till 2003. The atlas, and generally the SIFP database would certainly not have been build without his help.

R.Amuda & Joe Vimal Raj:
R.Amuda have been assistant for the SIFP project from 1998 till 2002. She was of great help for cartography.
Joe Vimal Raj is technical assistant for the SIFP project since 2003.
